In Earth Day 2007 the maze followed our theme of “Make A Commitment” and we asked participants to help improve the environment by making changes in their daily lives. Most of these changes were small actions, but if these changes were made by a large number of people, the beneficial impact to the earth would be great.
During the four-hour event, 1,235 people passed through the maze. They were asked to make commitments to change in five areas: Consumerism, Energy, Transportation, Housing and Waste. When they stopped at each station, participants were asked to make commitments, record them on a card and proceed to the next station. They were also presented with factual information about the environment. Upon completing the maze, they added up the total number of commitments and entered the number on the card. Participants were also able to see how they ranked in terms of their commitment score. All participants received a t-shirt at the end of the maze.
