Georgia Tech’s Earth Day Celebration is one of the largest in the southeast. Thousands of people converge on Tech Walk during the five-hour event, which features over 70 exhibitors, live music, and activities such as an office supply exchange, an interactive maze, a clothing swap, and E-waste recycling. It takes the combined efforts of more than 200 volunteers to make the event a success.
- Hang out with Captain Planet!
- Assist participants in the Earth Day Maze
- Give out organic popcorn
- Distribute Earth Day T-shirts
- Help out with the Clothing Swap and Office Supply Exchange
- And much more!
Volunteer task descriptions are provided below. There are 13 different activities to choose from. No prior experience is required. You can volunteer for one hour, all day, or anything in between. All volunteers receive a free Earth Day T-shirt.

Volunteer Activity Descriptions
||What Will I Be Doing?
||Assist at one of four green trivia stations. As Earth Day participants complete each station, they will collect stamps that they can trade for an Earth Day T-shirt.
|The Green Challenges are interactive stations that people can participate in. Help make sure the activities run smoothly.
||Help our mascots (Captain Planet, Reynard the Fox and Bag Monster) with the things they need during the event, such as getting water and lunch.
|Earth Day Set Up
||Help set up tables and chairs for our 70 exhibitors, and put up directional signs.
||Answer questions and give visitors information to find their way around the Earth Day Celebration. You will have the resources you need such as a map and a list of events, locations and times.
||Make popcorn (instructions will be provided) and give out free organic popcorn to Earth Day participants.
||Help out with stage logistics, such as audio and stage set up for the bands, pick up lunches for the performers, and run other errands, as needed, for the stage manager.
||Assist exhibitors as they arrive and set up. Help exhibitors carry display items to their assigned tables.
||Help out at the clothing swap with folding and hanging clothes.
||Assist people who are dropping off old electronics. Help to unload and sort donations, separate cables from computers, and stack CPUs.
|Office Supply Exchange
||Anyone with a BuzzCard is welcome to come into the office supply exchange area and take as many office supplies as they would like, for free. You will help set up the available office supplies neatly on the tables and check to make sure people who come in have their BuzzCard.
|Shoot the Shoes
||"Shoot the Shoes" is a fun way to recycle old athletic shoes. People donate their shoes and can shoot them through a basketball hoop that will be set up at the event. Volunteers will assist people who are donating shoes, cheer them on as they "shoot the shoes", and keep a count of the donated shoes.
||Give out free T-shirts to people who have collected all four stamps in the Earth Day Deconstructed Maze.
||At the Earth Day Celebration, there are always activities that need extra volunteers. If you are willing to help out wherever you are needed most, choose the "No Preference" option.
